Our first tropical storm, Andrea! We are so excited!! We've been through tornadoes and water spouts on Lake Erie but never anything big like a tropical storm. What is a tropical storm anyway but a baby hurricane. Never did that either.
People really take this stuff seriously around here. We are in Portsmouth VA across from Norfolk at Ocean Marine Center, right in the middle of the Navy Yard with huge military vessels. We even saw a submarine!!
We sterned in with a starboard tie. We used almost every line we own. The bow has three lines - 2 on each side. The starboard side has at least one line on each of the two side cleats making spring lines. The port side has a line off each cleat to the dock on the other side. There are two lines off each of the stern cleats. After walking Rusty we even flipped the dinghy back into its travel position on the back deck.
The dockmaster walked up and down the docks checking to be sure boats were tied down properly. He said if there is a tornado we should head to the parking garage across the parking lot! Imagine!!
