We took the ferry across the river again. Our goal is Chelsea market on the west side around the 30s.

A kayaker in the middle of the Hudson? Are you nuts? |
Crossing the Hudson was spectacular. Rain earlier in the day really brought out the sun. We saw a lot of mega yachts docked in this little marina next to World Finance Center and at Chelsea Pier. One was Imagine, Ron Howard''s yacht!!

Imagine is Ron Howard's yacht - he must be around somewhere |

Park next to World Finance Center |
Given our history of getting lost, arguing over directions, and being overwhelmed because everything is just so far away, we decided to rent bikes using the bike share.
We feel kind of cocky because we know how to use these great bike sharing systems since we used them in Washington DC. Never again will be stuck in a big city forced to take a cab.
We hoped on bikes and took the bike path north. Runners, bikes, parks.

Pier 57 |
All along this path are piers that used to handle shipping and transport. Now many of them are empty and many have been converted to other purposes.
|
Chelsea Pier is a recreation center. That frame is a
golf driving range. |

Mega yachts at Chelsea Pier |
We wandered around Chelsea Pier. This didn't look like the market that Katie Vellucci told us about. Maybe we misunderstood. So we walked across the street looking for Chelsea Market and the Meatpacking District.
|
High Line - see the river in the background? |
We found the High Line. According to Wikipedia, "T
he High Line is a 1-mile New York City linear park built on a 1.45-mile section of the former elevated New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line, which runs along the lower west side of NY".
|
Accessing the High Line |
It is pretty cool to have a park with trees, flowers, and a walkway winding above the city streets overlooking the river.
|
Diane von Furstenburg's dress shop |
This neighborhood is very trendy with bunches of designers with fancy dress shops and furniture.
Also places to sit and relax.
|
A great place to sit along the street. |
|
Restaurants in this trendy neighborhood |
|
One of those food trucks |
We had lunch at Dos Caminos, a trendy Mexican restaurant with tapas. Very expensive but it was early so it was ok.
|
See the bike share bikes right in front of the restaurant? |
|
Kermit walking to the Chelsea Market |
We figured out that Chelsea Market was just across the street so off we went.
This market is really cool. It used to be a real market where food was distributed to NYC stores and restaurants.
Now it has been converted to little shops and restaurants. I really enjoyed the milk and cookies store and Sarabeth's bread store. Art displays are everywhere.

This is some kind of water display - it seemed
like it was part of a spring |

We wandered through then walked back to find bikes.

Kermit loves biking! |
Drop the bikes and head to the ferry. Back to our boat home at Liberty Landing!

Last look at the WFC ferry landing |
Next: We are ready to leave NYC and head up the river.
