Harbor Springs MI is lovely 8/14/12

We left Mackinaw City with the Bridge shrouded in the fog.
I bet every looper has a set of these photos! Now we are in Lake Huron:

Now we are in Lake Michigan!!
Check out that flat water! It stayed flat and cloudy until we rounded the corner and headed south. Then the sun came out and the water started to chop a little, up to 2' or so. Not bad at all.

It was a pretty short ride. We left a little after 8am and arrived about 11 or so. We did not save on gas this time. We ran about 20 mph. You have to stay so far in the center that you can't really see much on either side. So we missed cool things like the McCormick House, where the International Dark Sky Park is located. We tried to get there all weekend but the weather has been cloudy, like you can see in the pictures of the bridge.

Harbor Springs is sort of like Put-in-Bay without the alcohol. There are quaint shops, more upscale than PIB, and great restaurants, just as pricey as PIB. The municipal marina is wonderful, like all the other municipal marinas we encountered in Michigan. What a nice investment they  make in their waterfront!! The marina looks like Crews Nest, even with the big boats. There are several, like 4 or 5, 70+ foot boats right across from us. Only 2 fit into the picture at a time!

This is the municipal park after dinner last night. You can see the marina and the restaurants through the trees.

Kermit met loopers Sarah and Brooks McCuen from Durham NC. They anchored out at a mooring bouy.
Here is the looper locator. Remember we are not actually on the hard land even though the flag shows us in the middle of the town. We are in the Municipal Marina!
